The Woolpack Hotel was situated on the
Market Place.
This late 18th century building is
grade-II listed.
A former inn, the Woolpack finally closed in 1987. It has since been
converted for residential and retail use. |

Listed
building details: |
Hotel. Late C18 and early C19. Painted brick with plain-tile and slate
roofs, hipped to right. Brick ridge and end stacks: 2 flues partly
truncated. 2 ranges face Market Place, both of 3 storeys. Left range, late
C18, is a 5 - window range of 12 - pane sashes with 9 - pane to second
floor. Central 1st Floor window is a C20 tripartite sash and that below a
C20 bow infilling a former carriage arch. Bracketed eaves cornice. 3 -
window range to right of similar sashes with central canted oriel to 1st
floor. Doorway to left has Tuscan columns and piers in antis supporting a
plain frieze. Further
entrance on right corner has glazed door and two C20 windows. Further sashes
to right side facing Market Street and 2 - storey ranges to right of this.
