There were two pubs in Nettleton. The first to close was the King William
which closed some time in the first half of the1960s. I never visited it
when it was a pub, probably because it was before I started drinking in
pubs! It is now a private house in Nettleton Shrub on the junction with the
West Kington road. |

My parents were the penultimate
landlords at the “King Willy” as it was known locally. They left in 1957
when I was seven . The pub was not really viable then partly because the
landlady who had been there for many years only moved to another pub two
miles away in Burton. Also the Salutation just up the road had just been
modernised by Courages and Ushers who owned the King William were behind the
times. |
