The Tollgate was situated on Tollgate Road. This
pub closed in 2008. A grade-II listed building, this pub was previously
known as The New Inn. |

Corner site with St Martin's Church Street
qv. Formerly shown as New Inn. C18 or C17 origin. 2 storeys and attic
painted brick. Steep gable end old tile roof. Front to St Martin's Church
Street has 4 windows 1st floor, one blind, flush architrave framed sashes,
glazing bars intact. Entrance and bar window in single storey extension with
weatherboarded upper part (former carriageway?). Gable end to Southampton
Road, one window in gable and on 1st floor, 2 on ground floor, flush
architrave framed sashes, those on ground floor formerly doorways. Taller
early C19 part to rear with hipped tiled roof. 3 windows 1st floor,
tripartite sash ground floor. Stable wing with hatches and double doors. |
