The Wroughton was situated on High Street. This
pub was demolished in the 1990s and has now been converted to the block of
four flats in the above photo. Other residential accommodation known as Ely
Court is now built on the garden and paddock. Formerly The Ely Inn, a
Whitbread and previously Stroud Brewery (West Country Ales) house. The name
referred to a famous racehorse from the 1860s trained in the village, and
was shown on the sign. |
