Wild Man

The Wild Man was situated on the A64.
I used to pass a pub by the side of the A64 near York on journeys into West Yorkshire from Scarborough. The pub was in a poor state of repair when I last saw it back in about 1997, but the thing that always caught my eye was the sign hanging up: 'The Wild Man' - and a picture of a shaggy looking green-man type character waving a staff in the air and looking fairly frightening. I often wondered where the inspiration for the name had come from. The pub is now an Indian restaurant called Agraar, or at least it was last time I passed by.

I used to go there in 1964/1965 as it had a disco on a Saturday night.

Gillian Smart 1970s Parents friends Barrie & Joan Peacock & their sons were landlords early 70's we use to stay for weekends. Barrie looked like Amos Brierley in Emmerdale They had an Alsation called Simba, who after closing had a pint of bitter & bag of crisps. We had lots of fun there, great to explore, lovely place back then, lots of passing trade. Can't remember how long they where there but by 77 they had a new pub in Bridlington.
Lloyd Craven 1950-1960 Our village choir trip used to call occasionally on a Whit Tuesday trip to the coast. A little girl off the coach plucked a single flower from the garden in all innocence and a staff member came outdoors and certainly lived up to the name of the establishment. He frightened all the kids, including me half to death.
Terry Leslie 1962 Night out for me and a couple of friends from Wakefield, An absolute brilliant night, records all night long and at that particular time Joe Brown and The Bruvvers got to number two in the charts with Picture of You,, Heaven knows how many times it was played that night. Memories,
