Oustons

Oustons was situated on King Street. This pub had previously been a grocers shop of the same name. It closed in 1982 and is now used as a phone shop.

A friend & I frequently visited Oustons Bar, enjoying the lively seaside style entertainment laid on at weekends. This was attended by holidaymakers & locals alike. We were however, to experience the dubious 'honour' of being barred!
They'd advertised a Victorian Evening, with a prize of 'Champers for the best dressed Victorian. Me & a friend went to great trouble to prepare our costumes. The evening was a success, but no prizegiving! I diplomatically asked the then landlord: "Could we have missed the prizegiving?" His sarcastic reply was: "Stick around son, you might get one yet!" Being close to closing time, this wasn't going to happen!
I wrote to the Bridlington Free Press, who contacted him. My letter was published (headlined 'Not Amused At Victorian Event), along with the landlord's reply, His reply was apologetic, stating that events overtook him during a very busy evening, adding that he'd contact me. No contact, but we both got barred!
Shortly after, the pub was to close permanently, but the same landlord was to receive adverse publicity, for 'forgetting' to apply for an extension for a birthday event. This resulted in the unexpected curtailment of celebrations!
What a shame this popular Bridlington venue was to close forever on the sour note of mismanagement.
