The Ship was situated at 1 Bridge Street.
This pub was present by 1851 when the publican was George Webster. |

Used to drop and pick my father up from here on
an evening, the beer was superb best around and best Tetley's brewed in
Leeds before the closed the brewery and spoilt the brand and beer, the back
room to the left of the building had bench seats red leather I recall, there
were a few tables near to the bar to the left at the end of the room which
had an opening to the hotel which also had a bar. The clientele were a
majority of middle aged men who worked in Glass making, mining, chemical
industry and power station, no music but plenty of dominoes and talking,
strangely not many smoked for the day and age. Fond memories |
