The Catterick Bridge Hotel was situated at
Catterick Bridge. This grade-II listed
pub was damaged by fire in 2014 and plans have now been submitted to convert
to residential use. |

building details: |
Coaching inn. C17, with late C18, C19 and C20
alterations and extensions. Roughcast, C20 pantile roofs. 2 storeys.
Central, original, part is U- plan, 1:2:1 bays, with early C20 rear range
and recessed range to left, and late C18 and late C19 range to right added
in 2 stages, 1:1:2 bays. Central section: central leaved panel doors in
early C20 ashlar pilastered surround with segmental pediment containing coat
of arms of Lawson family of Brough Hall. Sash windows with glazing bars, and
6-pane, sash windows in gables of outer wings. Shaped kneelers, ashlar
copings. Lead water spout from parapet in centre. Range to right, from left:
board door in C20 semicircular-headed porch, 9-pane unequally-hung window
above; canted bay with sash windows with glazing bars on ground floor,
9-pane unequally-hung sash windows on first floor, hipped roof; 2 bays C20
casement windows. To left, recessed range with 2 bays of oriel windows, and
stack to end left. Interior: Lawson coat of arms on ceiling of ground-floor
room in canted bay window. Formerly the George and Dragon Inn, mentioned in
C16 in Leland's Itinerary, and a private house in late C19 - early C20. |
