The Dyers Arms was situated on Old Westgate. |

This pub was called the Black Tulip during the
1970s when I was a P.C. stationed at Dewsbury. |

I'm fairly certain I won a competition
at Batley Boy's High School, to come up with the best name and picture for
the sign for this pub when it was renamed 'The Black Tulip'.
I was meant to go to the 'grand opening' and receive my prize but didn't go.
I was just too modest and shy !.
I only ever went in once , years later. Loved the atmosphere and loud music
but it wasn't really my scene.
I think the teacher who did the competition was Mr Hallet, or something
similar, so I assume he was related somehow to the management of the Black
Tulip ?. Mr Hallet was my first year History Teacher.
I hated History at school but it’s good to recall bygone times !
Anyone able to corroborate any of this ?. |
