The Boot & Shoe closed in the 1970s. The publican in 1893 was Robert Auton, at time of
closure, Ronald Hall. |

Our family lived in Ellingstring from
1951 to 1966 after which we emigrated to Australia. During a recent
nostalgic moment, I was trying to remember the name of the Pub in the
village and looked it up on the internet. That is when I discovered your
website listing the ‘Boot and Shoe Inn’ and to my surprised Ron Hall was
still the publican when it closed. I have a vague memory that he also ran a
contracting business with a JCB doing various earth moving job around the
district. I was only 15 when we left but I knew it was a Pub that was never
open, he kept the licence going but never opened the doors, I don’t ever
recall going in the building so don’t know if the bar and fitting were still
present. |
