Boot & Shoe

The Boot & Shoe closed in the 1970s. The publican in 1893 was Robert Auton, at time of closure, Ronald Hall.

Our family lived in Ellingstring from 1951 to 1966 after which we emigrated to Australia. During a recent nostalgic moment, I was trying to remember the name of the Pub in the village and looked it up on the internet. That is when I discovered your website listing the ‘Boot and Shoe Inn’ and to my surprised Ron Hall was still the publican when it closed. I have a vague memory that he also ran a contracting business with a JCB doing various earth moving job around the district. I was only 15 when we left but I knew it was a Pub that was never open, he kept the licence going but never opened the doors, I don’t ever recall going in the building so don’t know if the bar and fitting were still present.
