The Black Swan was situated at 2
Westgate. This pub is now used as a restaurant and wine bar after being
taken over by Cookfellas restaurant. It was present by 1823 when the
publican was John Husband. At the time of its opening it was one of only
four allowed to trade during the mart, a local livestock auction. The
buildings to the rear would have housed stables at one point suggesting that
it was possibly a staging house for mounted travellers. |
