The Heckmondwike Tavern was situated on the High Street. Formerly The Sir Robert Peel Inn (as late as Jan 2015), this pub closed 1 June 2023 (according to CAMRA), and a planning application has been submitted to turn the building into six one-bed flats, with six parking spaces. It is claimed that several previous tenants have failed to make it a profitable success. Locals are concerned about access being blocked to their existing housing and parking.
