Researching about The Cross Keys - a pub I went to a few times years ago, I read that properties in this locality [including The Cross Keys pub] were abandoned and crumbling due to persistent flooding. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_Leven]  (It always did flood)  So they are doing the obvious thing and building some new houses down there. I went there with work colleagues in the late seventies for a lunchtime meal - the pub was seriously understaffed (for whatever reason) and people who had ordered meals earlier left well before their meal finally arrived.  We left when we saw what was happening (or not happening) and I never went back again.
