The Palmerston Hotel was situated on Newport Road. This pub has now been demolished. My Grandad was the landlord of the Palmerston during the 1950’s and early 1960’s. He left to take over The Erimus in Newton St, and then became the first  landlord of Red Rose on Cumberland Road. He remained there until he retired in the mid 1970’s.
