The Bonaparte Inn closed in the 1850s and is now
used as a private dwelling. |

I have a very old book on inn signs, that
refers to a pub in Nidd called Ass In A Band Box. The article goes on to
say this house was first referred to in 1712. A latter sign depicted
Napoleon sitting on an Ass on a bandbox using this device as a stepping
stone to invade England.
The source of this info is Quaint signs of old
inns,G.J.Monson-Fitzjohn.
