Board Inn

The Board Inn was situated at 13 Bargate.

During the war the proprietor was George Brittain who also owned the houses behind where we lived – Castle View or Brittain’s Yard.(Converted stables). George Brittain’s son, also George, was living in No. 3 when I left the town in the year 2000. The front of the pub was a grocer’s shop and I think, butcher too. I remember as a child, about 1939 watching the making of sausages in a hand-turned machine.
