The Shakespeare was situated on St Helens Square. This pub closed c2019 and various schemes have been submitted for its use, including demolition, together with adjacent buildings (newsagents and public toilets).  The latest scheme is for preservation of the buildings, and conversion into Art spaces (exhibition space and affordable spaces for 12 artists) and flats about the former newsagents. It is hoped the art spaces will be operational from 15 June 2024.
