It had a back-bar that was sealed off, with not outside
windows or doors. Ideal for after-hours service, which was much
appreciated by the clientele. The landlord was Jack Barnard, an ex-Rugby
League player, which guaranteed no trouble, and his wife the blond Bess
was admired (from afar: see previous note about husband.) The pub was
closed down, I never knew why, and the Barnards moved up Wharfedale
where they ran a pub in Appletreewick. |
