The Windmill Inn was situated at 2 Westbury Street.

in 1958 a fight between two men occurred in the alleyway behind the Windmill Inn, one of these men sustained serious injuries from which he was expected to die, in anticipation of his death a Thornaby Police enquiry team was formed, the culprit was not traced and the victim survived his injuries. Some months later the winner of this fight picked on someone else who could easily handle him and got badly beaten, his mother reported the matter to the Police. The Police interviewed the winner of this second fight and learnt bully-boy had started this second fight and was the man wanted by the Police in connection with the earlier incident so arrested him, he got a 12 months in prison for the first assault.
