The Jolly Sailor was situated on Thornes Lane
Wharf. |
|
The Jolly Sailor was a favourite teenage haunt, perhaps it
was the gloomy lighting in the bar, or it's remoteness from the city centre
that allowed a bit of leeway. Sad to see it has finally closed. It was a
bit grim, even by the standards of the 70's, with those old victorian 3
legged tables (still a feature of the Black Horse on Westgate and the pub
atop Heath Common) and sparcely upholstered bench seats. Tetleys if memory
serves me right, at a princely sum of £0.16p/pint in 1974. |

Looking for any information regarding the pubs early history. |
