The Black Bull was situated on Main Street. This grade-II listed pub was owned by the Castle Howard estate and became a temperance hotel.  It is now in residential use.
 

 
Listed building details:
Inn, now farmhouse. Late C18 with late C19 alteration and extension. Coursed sandstone rubble, rendered to front; pantile roof with brick stacks. Central-entry plan, one room deep; rear lean-to extension added. 2-storey and attic, 3-window front. Central 6-panel door, partly glazed, beneath divided overlight. 12-pane sashes with painted stone sills to ground and first floor. Painted keyed wedge lintels to ground and first-floor openings. 3 gabled dormers with plain bargeboards and unequal 12-pane sashes to attic. Coped gables and shaped kneelers. End stacks.
