The Gimcrack

The Gimcrack was situated on Fulford Road. This was once a private house but opened as a pub in 1936 and named after a racehorse that won 27 races in the 1760s. The Gimcrack Stakes is run yearly at York’s Ebor meeting in August. It closed in 2002 despite local opposition. The building was saved from demolition and is now flats.
