Used to be owned by my grandparents - Henry and
Selina Tierney. It was sold in the 1970’s after my grandmother passed away
there. I remember there was a long hallway. The vault and main bar was the
first on the right, the snug was on the right at the back and the left hand
side was the concert room. Had a small stage with a piano on it.
Right at the very back was living accommodation.
The trap door to the cellar for the draymen was at the front, underneath the
vault window.
Toilets were in the yard at the back.
It was also a B&B for travelling salesmen.
Always seemed very busy then. Like most pubs then, I suppose. I tried
pulling a pint when I was little but it was hard work. Not like nowadays. |
