The Castle Tavern was situated on the
north side of Long Street in 1426 during the reign of King Henry VI. The
vestiges of the original pub remain in the house now called “Tudor Rose”. It
was substantially rebuilt as The Castle Inn
in 1800, during the reign of King George III, on the opposite side of the
street. |
