This one threw me a bit as you have it listed as Sarah
Ellen Street. Fortunately I googled said street in Blackburn which
confirmed that I had got the right pub as the street was renamed Davenport
Road in 1878 so that is naturally what I know it as.
This pub was in my family until about 1931. My maternal grandmother's
paternal grandmother was the landlady. The pub was situated on the corner
of Davenport Road & Addison Street.

Have to agree with Phil. The address threw me a little bit as well,
especially as the address for the Claremont a little further along Devonport
Rd is given as number 25 although this is corrected in the text below the
photo. We were tenants of the Imp, as it was known by the locals, from
1988-90. |

My dad moved from Manchester in 1954 and took the
Claremont Hotel along the road from
the Imperial. I remember several journeys between the two as dad and the
licensee at the Imperial had a "lease/ lend2 arrangement". Crates of
Thwaites bottled beers hefted up the road when needed. |
