This was my maternal grandparents
local. Harry & Eliza Bouvier who lived at no 245 Rotherhithe new road large
family 16 children from about 1941 after being bombed out from the Borough
had own family dart team at the pub nicked named the creeping 8. Uncle Jack
had the greengrocers next door at 283 and Uncle Leslie had the grocers shop
next at 281. My parents John and Lil trained here at The Empress of India to
be licencees about 1956 under the the guidance of the then tenants Alf and
Cathy Talbot who I think were the last tenants before demolition and moving
out to The Porcupine in Mottingham
which is now earmarked for demolition. My parents did 41 years as tenants
for Courages at the Windsor Castle
Peckham (now demolished), Duke of Cambridge Islington and The Phoenix Harlow
new town before retiring |
