The Temple Bar was situated at 286 Walworth
Road. |

What a great pub it was in the 1960/70's. I used
to go there every night when I was 17 in 1966 to see Roger and his group
singing all the hits of the day perfectly. Pam the owner often slipped me a
gin or two but not in front of her husband though, what a grouch he was! Pam
moved from the Lord Wellington pub in the Old Kent Road where Roger & co
used to sing their hearts out with Beach Boys covers. I was only 16 then!
When they moved to the Temple Bar they advertised it on Radio Caroline and
the pub was swamped with people every night and was crushingly brilliant
with very loud live music. Paying an outrageous 1 shilling and 11 old pence
(about 10p!) for a light ale, it was the highest price in town! On special
occasions I got to sing with Roger & co with old rock and roll songs, my
party piece was "great balls of fire" which went down quite well. I was very
proud of that because no one would sing with them unless they were well
known, on the tele and the like, so I was made up in those "good 'ol days.
Bring them back and the Temple Bar. Sadly missed. |

I used this as my favourite pub in the
70’s, a fantastic pub with a mixture of live house band, resident DJ ( Lee
st. John, I think) and topless dancers, Trixie,Carol and others too many to
remember!! A great time was had by all. I remember the guvnor, Tony, didn’t
take any crap from punters like underage drinkers and the like, never had
any trouble in there! Very fond memories of this watering hole. |

Brilliant pub, DJ with topless dancers. Great music. The
pub was always heaving. Always a great atmosphere.
Trixie was one of the dancers there who was always well received owing
to her beauty and obvious other charms. She appeared in a Beer
commercial on TV but which beer now escapes me. Probably one of the
rubbish ones like Double Diamond or a similar chemical concoction. |

Great Pub the band Carl Rogers I
think Peter Bray Mick and the drummer were fantastic never a bad
performance better than any other band played all the latest hits , my
favourite The late Gene Pitneys Mecca.Peter had. Gretsch tennesean
guitar which I have a similar one today. The pub was so busy we used to
drop our empty bottles (light and bitter) on the floor and catch them on
our foot because we couldn’t get to a counter. Happy days. |
